The Veloroos

You thought you were tough, these women redefine rule #5. From their web site... What is RAAM? RAAM is a race! Yes that's right, it's a 4828km time trial race across the USA! The Race Across America (RAAM) is one the toughest and most respected endurance cycling events in the world. Departing from Oceanside on the Californian West Coast on 20th June, 2015, athletes cycle 4828km and grind out 51,816m of vertical climbing (almost 6 times Mount Everest), cross 12 states, pass through 88 counties and 350 communities before reaching Annapolis on the East coast. Recently voted one of the world’s 10 most extreme challenges, there is no other cycling race like RAAM. Unlike the three European Grand Tours (Tour de France, Vuelta a Espana and Giro de Italia), which are staged events, RAAM is one continuous race from start to finish i.e. the clock does not stop! The Veloroos athletes will race continuously 24x7, day and night, supported tirelessly by a dedicated crew with vehicles, food and supplies. The aim is to complete the race in less than 8 days. To do so, the team will endure extreme heat, wind, thunderstorms, altitude sickness, the dark of night, fatigue and sleep deprivation as they cross several major mountain ranges along the way.
